Terms of Use
If you want to join the community of organizations and share this database, you must agree to several things. These things are listed below.
What is important to us?
- You must agree to support the values listed in About this Database.
Using, sharing, and publishing data
- You must agree that data you share will be visible to staff from the organizations listed in About this Database. (This list may change with time) If you don’t want other organizations to see the information, don’t put it in the database.
- If you want to share and/or publish information from the database with any other organizations or people not on the list above, you will first get permission from the editorial board. Also, you must make sure that anyone inside your organization understands and agrees to this before you share data with them.
- Why do we have to be so careful? Some information is confidential. Some information could even put people in danger. Other information, if publicly known, could make some people’s work more difficult. So far, we haven’t yet carefully separated the confidential from the non-confidential information. We want to do that in the future, but it’s been more important to work on other things. For now, if you want to share information with others, please ask us whether it is safe to share it before doing so.
You must also agree to the following:
- Security: You will protect your username and password for the database and not share it with anyone.
- Stewardship: You will not try to damage the database system.
- Accuracy: When you add new data, you will make sure it is correct, as much as you can know.
- Respect: If you disagree with data in the system, if you think it is not right, you will discuss your disagreement respectfully and work with others to find a common solution.
- Collaboration: You will use this data to cooperate and collaborate with the other organizations, not compete with them.
- Non-Profit: You will use this data to benefit Deaf communities. You will not use it to make money for your personal benefit.
- Good Faith: You agree not to take any legal action against this database or the operators concerning the operation of the database or the data in it.
- Responsibility: You will meet with the operations committee first, to be sure you understand all these responsibilities, before you get access to the data.
